0 New Fund Provides Stake in Twitter for JPMorgan

Chris Sacca is known in Silicon Valley for his Western-style button-down shirts and his early investments in start-up companies like Twitter.

Chris Sacca provided JPMorgan Chase with a way to invest in Twitter.
But for big institutional investors, Mr. Sacca, 35, is becoming known as an important gatekeeper in meeting the demand for the private shares of fast-growing Internet companies.
His fund has already bought about $400 million worth of shares of Twitter over a number of months, giving it a stake of roughly 9 percent and implying a valuation of $4.2 billion to $4.5 billion for the microblogging site.
JPMorgan Chase and its Digital Growth Fund, a new $1.2 billion vehicle, is a major investor in Mr. Sacca’s fund, and it will indirectly own shares of Twitter as a result. JPMorgan is not directly negotiating with Twitter to acquire a stake in the company, said three people close to the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because details of the deal were private.
Mr. Sacca has raised more than $1 billion for his fund, two of those people said. The investment fund, which opened last summer, is not yet closed and will have other institutional investors as well, these people said.
The JPMorgan investment in Mr. Sacca’s fund was reported on Monday by the technology news site TechCrunch. JPMorgan declined to comment.

0 Google tweaks search to punish 'low-quality' sites

Google has changed its secret search formula in the United States to be more discerning when it comes to which websites are worth recommending and which should sink in the rankings.

The move announced late Thursday was part of an ongoing duel between the search titan and low-quality websites that feature only content copied from elsewhere on the Internet or use techniques to trick their way high in results.
"Many of the changes we make are so subtle that very few people notice them," Google principal engineer Matt Cutts and Google fellow Amit Singhal said in a blog post.
"But, in the last day or so we launched a pretty big algorithmic improvement to our ranking."
They said the search formula change affects 11.8 percent of search queries, dropping low-quality websites in results while elevating high-quality websites with original content such as research, analysis, or in-depth reports.
"We do have a responsibility to encourage a healthy web ecosystem," Cutts and Singhal wrote.
"Therefore, it is important for high-quality sites to be rewarded, and that's exactly what this change does."
Google said that it has been working on the issue for more than a year and engineers spent several months crafting the algorithm change, which was implemented in the United States and will be rolled out elsewhere over time.
The change at the world's most popular search engine was a hot topic among website operators on Thursday, with some happy that Google knocked "content farms" down a few notches and others complaining of unfairly dropping in rank.
Content farms are in Google crosshairs because such websites are known to pack pages with copied or superficial material crafted to capitalize on attention-getting topics.
Such websites want to attract as many people as possible in hopes of making money off online advertising.
"They may have whacked eHow good, but they did it in part through a crude duplicate content filter," someone with the online name 'Content ed' said in a busy chat forum at webmasterworld.com.
"I'm seeing long established sites getting killed because they have been ripped-off, copied and rewritten/repurposed to the point that Google can't tell who was the original."

0 Weds 23rd feb 2011 new massive riots in Greece, not reported by mainstream media

Violent clashes have broken out in Greece after protesters took to the streets against a wave of government-imposed austerity measures designed to rein in the country's budgetary deficit.

Police in Athens fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators hurling stones and petrol bombs, with a 24-hour nationwide strike bringing much of the country to a standstill.
Government offices and many schools remained closed on Wednesday afternoon, with the union-organised strike also causing major disruption to public transport and hospital services.

More than 100 flights were cancelled, as clouds of smoke from the riots choked the capital city, while a journalist walkout from state and private television and radio stations resulted in a partial media blackout.
The major protests are the first of their kind this year after Greece's Socialist Pasok administration was forced to call in a €110 billion EU-IMF bail-out last May.
"I am demonstrating because the government has to fix this mess that it has gotten into," hairdresser Doria Tsirigoti told the DPA German press agency as she pulled the shutters down on her salon to avoid damage. "There are politicians which have robbed the country blind yet no one has been brought to justice."
Government spending cuts and tax hikes linked to the EU-IMF support package have proved highly contentious with many Greek citizens.
Speaking at the protests, deputy leader of Greece' large GSEE union, Stathis Anestis, dubbed the government measures "harsh and unfair".
"We are facing long-term austerity, with high unemployment and destabilising our social structure," he told the Associated Press news agency. "What is increasing is the level of anger and desperation ... If these harsh policies continue, so will we."
A day earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel indicated that the repayment period for Greece's international loan could be extended.
The latest clashes come as EU leaders prepare to meet next month in various formats to discuss an overhaul of the bloc's emergency lending fund and budgetary rules.
A Franco-German 'Pack for Competitiveness' is also on the agenda, with the package of proposals meeting a frosty reception at a European Summit earlier this month.
The eurozone's second EU-IMF bail-out recipient, Ireland, is set for national elections this Friday, with the ruling popular Fianna Fail party headed for a humiliating defeat of historic proportions.
Anger over the bail-out lending terms has been a central element during recent election campaigning, with the front-runner centre-right Fine Gael party repeatedly stating its desire to see loan interest rates reduced.

0 End of mercury thermometers is near, due to mercury hazzard

Health, environmental concerns are hustling their extinction

It was one of Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit's most famous inventions, in 1714. But after nearly 300 years on the market, the still-common mercury thermometer now appears headed for extinction.

While many Maryland residents probably still have them in their medicine cabinets, or on their walls, the retail sale of mercury thermometers has been banned in Maryland since 2002 because of mercury's hazards as a powerful neurotoxin.

There are similar bans or restrictions in at least 17 other states, with more such legislation pending elsewhere, according to the Interstate Mercury Education and Reduction Clearinghouse.

Mercury thermometers are also on their way out in a wide variety of industries, along with a long list of other measuring devices, thermostats and switches that rely on mercury components.

And beginning March 1, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, in
Gaithersburg, will no longer provide calibration services for manufacturers and users of mercury-in-glass thermometers — a critical service it had provided to American industry since 1901.

NIST and the
Environmental Protection Agency are taking other regulatory steps that would limit the use of those mercury-based products, and provide alternatives.

"Due to elemental mercury's high toxicity, EPA seeks to reduce potential mercury exposures to humans and the environment by reducing the overall use of mercury-containing products, including mercury-containing thermometers," said EPA spokesman Dale Kemery.

It's still healthy enough to add to Vaccines though??......even though you are then injecting it straight into the blood stream??

0 Revolution Has No Religion

0 Vaccine Makers Are Already Protected By Federal Law Against Any Court Action

22nd feb 2011
WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court ruled Today that a federal law bars lawsuits against drug makers over serious side effects from childhood vaccines.

By a 6-2 vote, the court ruled against the parents of a child who sued the drug maker Wyeth in Pennsylvania state court for the health problems they say their daughter, now 19, suffered from a vaccine she received in infancy.
Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the court, said Congress set up a special vaccine court to handle such claims as a way to provide compensation to injured children without driving drug manufacturers from the vaccine market. The idea, he said, was to create a no-fault system that spares the drug companies the costs of defending against parents' lawsuits.
Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor dissented. Nothing in the 1986 law "remotely suggests that Congress intended such a result," Sotomayor wrote, taking issue with Scalia.
Scalia's opinion was a stinging defeat for parents who found their award from the vaccine court insufficient or failed to collect at all.
Such was the case for Robalee and Russell Bruesewitz of Pittsburgh, who filed their lawsuit after the vaccine court rejected their claims for compensation. According to the lawsuit, their daughter, Hannah, was a healthy infant until she received the diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccine in April 1992. The vaccine was made by Wyeth, now owned by Pfizer, Inc.
Within hours of getting the DPT shot, the third in a series of five, the baby suffered a series of debilitating seizures. Hannah continues to suffer from residual seizure disorder, the suit says.
Scalia said that when a vaccine is properly prepared and is accompanied by proper directions and warnings, lawsuits over its side effects are not allowed under the 1986 law.
"Vaccine manufacturers fund from their sales an informal, efficient compensation program for vaccine injuries," Scalia said. "In exchange they avoid costly tort litigation and the occasional disproportionate jury verdict."
The American Academy of Pediatrics, representing more than 60,000 doctors, praised the decision. "Childhood vaccines are among the greatest medical breakthroughs of the last century," said Dr. Marion Burton, the group's president. "Today's Supreme Court decision protects children by strengthening our national immunization system and ensuring that vaccines will continue to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in this country."
The vaccine court has paid out more than $1.9 billion to more than 2,500 people who claimed a connection between a vaccine and serious health problems.
The drug companies worried that they would face a flood of lawsuits over the side effects of vaccines in the event of an unfavorable Supreme Court decision. They were especially concerned about claims from families of autistic children who say the vaccines, or mercury-based thimerosal that once was used to preserve them, are linked to autism. Numerous studies have addressed vaccines and autism and found no link, including with the preservative.
Pfizer applauded the decision. "We have great sympathy for the Bruesewitzes," Pfizer Executive Vice President and General Counsel Amy Schulman said, "We recognize, however, that the Vaccine Act provides for full consideration of the liability issues through the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. Here the Vaccine Court concluded that the petitioners failed to prove their child's condition was caused by vaccination."
David Frederick, who represented the Bruesewitz family at the Supreme Court, said, "I'm disappointed for the families of victims of defectively designed vaccines, who now have no remedy at law for their injuries."
Justice Elena Kagan took no part in the case because she worked on it while serving in the Justice Department.
The case is Bruesewitz v. Wyeth, 09-152.

Wikileaks Is A Rothschild Operation: Rothschilds Use Wikileaks To Wound Rival Bank, Julian Assange’s Bail Posted By Rothschilds’ Sister-in-law, Many Other Links

Puppetworld Post Exclusive, last updated Jan 18 2011
Wikileaks' leader Julian Assange accepts a CD from Rudolph Elmer which reveals tax evation by wealthy clients of Swiss Bank Julius Baer, a rival of the Rothschild Bank in Switzerland.
After being made famous, Julian Assange’s first task is to wound a rival bank of the Rothschild Bank in Switzerland.  The rival is Bank Julius Baer, the top Swiss bank for centuries: the competing Rothschild Bank opened in Switzerland in 1968.
On January 17, 2011, Assange held a press conference at The Frontline Club where Rudolf Elmer, a former employee of Bank Julius Baer, gave Assange private files from the bank’s Cayman Islands’ operation.  Elmer said he wanted to expose mass tax evasion before he flies back to Switzerland to stand trial for stealing information from a bank.  Although Elmer has not named the tax evaders, he claims the CD files contain information about 40 politicians, many business people, multinational conglomerates and “people who have made their living in the arts.”

0 Far Side of the Sun

For the first time in history, the world has a full view of the far side of the Sun—and of the entire 360-degree sphere at once, for that matter—thanks to NASA’s Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO)

On February 6, 2011, the twin satellites reached opposite sides of the Sun, allowing space weather watchers to detect activity at any point on the sphere and to image eruptions that might be headed toward Earth.
“For the first time ever, we can watch solar activity in its full 3-dimensional glory,” said Angelos Vourlidas, a member of the STEREO science team from the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.
This composite image of the far side of the Sun was acquired at 18:16 Universal Time (Greenwich Time) on February 14, 2011. The left side of the disk was captured by STEREO A (ahead) and the right side by STEREO B (behind). Because of the geometry of the orbits of the spacecraft—which are slightly inclined above and below the plane of the planets, or the ecliptic—there are minor gaps in the data near the poles. Click on the animation link below to see a full day of Sun data from February 13.

It has been a long journey to a full 360 view of our nearest star. For hundreds of years, ground-based astronomers could only observe the Earth-facing side of the Sun. With the launch of the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory in 1995, researchers developed methods of helioseismology—studying wave propagation from inside the Sun—to model what was happening on the far side.
It has only been since October 2006, with the launch of STEREO, that scientists have been able to get a true “view” around the earth-visible limb of the Sun. For nearly five years, the two spacecraft slowly moved out in opposite arcs from a common point in the line from Sun to Earth. It took until this month to get to the full separation of 180 degrees.
STEREO’s telescopes are tuned to four wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet radiation, selected to trace key aspects of solar activity such as flares, tsunamis, and magnetic filaments. Solar storms can disrupt the functioning of satellites and distort the signals of electronic gadgets and power grids on Earth. This space weather creates beautiful auroras, but can also accelerate high-energy particles that are dangerous to humans working in space.
Each STEREO probe photographs half of the Sun and sends the images to Earth, where researchers combine the two views to create a sphere. Seeing the far side allows scientists to better anticipate solar disturbances. In the past, an active sunspot could emerge on the far side of the sun completely hidden from Earth. Then, the sun's rotation could turn that region toward Earth, spitting flares and clouds of plasma with little warning. Not anymore

0 The TV and your computer monitor can be used to manipulate your nervous system.

SCROLL WHEEL THIS UP AND DOWN...YOU MAY GET MY DRIFT...
Nervous system manipulation by electromagnetic fields from monitors
US Patent #6,506,148
“SUMMARY: Physiological effects have been observed in a human subject in response to stimulation of the skin with weak electromagnetic fields that are pulsed with certain frequencies near 1/2 Hz or 2.4 Hz, such as to excite a sensory resonance. Many computer monitors and TV tubes, when displaying pulsed images, emit pulsed electromagnetic fields of sufficient amplitudes to cause such excitation. It is therefore possible to manipulate the nervous system of a subject by pulsing images displayed on a nearby computer monitor or TV set. For the latter, the image pulsing may be imbedded in the program material, or it may be overlaid by modulating a video stream, either as an RF signal or as a video signal. The image displayed on a computer monitor may be pulsed effectively by a simple computer program. For certain monitors, pulsed electromagnetic fields capable of exciting sensory resonances in nearby subjects may be generated even as the displayed images are pulsed with subliminal intensity.

0 Army wants rapid-fire rubber bullets for crowd control

The US Army is planning to field “rubber bullets” for machine guns. Military officials claim the ammunition will allow them to more effectively quell violent protests without loss of life, but human rights campaigners are alarmed by the new weapon.
MK19 on a tripod with the usual grenade rounds.
   new scientist
The final design for the XM1044 round has not been selected, according to an order placed on the Federal Business Opportunities website last month, but the army’s Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate has been working on a ring aerofoil projectile for some years. The round is a hollow plastic cylinder 40 millimetres across, looking something like a short toilet-paper roll. In flight its shape generates lift, giving it a longer range.
The army’s existing crowd-control rounds are single shots fired from handheld grenade launchers with a range of about 50 metres – the XM1044 would double this range. It would be supplied in belts for the Mk19 grenade launcher, a truck-mounted weapon that can fire almost six rounds per second. The Mk19 has been exported to some 30 countries, including Egypt.
“The US army has a requirement for a rapid-fire non-lethal capability,” says Ken Schulters, project manager for close combat systems at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. “All currently fielded non-lethal ammunition is single shot.”
: W15QKN-11-R-B005 (fbo.gov):
The U.S. Army Contracting Command (ACC), Joint Munitions & Lethality (JM&L)Contracting Center, on behalf of the Project Manager, Close Combat Systems and the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (RDECOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000 intends to issue a solicitation requirement for a XM1044, 40mm Non-Lethal (NL) Blunt Trauma, Linked Cartridge which will operate out of the MK19 Mod 3 Grenade Machine Gun. The XM1044 Cartridge will be used to confuse, disorient, or momentarily distract potential threats without the use of deadly force. This cartridge is intended to be an area fire, low hazard, and non-shrapnel producing device. The XM1044 shall meet MIL-PRF-XM1044VB0, Performance Specification for the XM1044. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 332993.This will be a competitive acquisition resulting in the award of an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ), Firm Fixed Price contract(s) with a duration of five years, which includes Design Verification Testing (DVT), First Article Testing of the XM1044, 40mm NL Blunt Trauma, Linked Cartridges to MIL-PRF-XM1044VB0, and delivery of XM1044 inert, cutaway, and NL Cartridges. The required Delivery Schedule will be approximately 12,000-15,000 XM1044 per month.

0 Silver Rises to 30-Year High, Gold Gains on Middle East Unrest

Silver extended a rally to a 30-year high, and gold climbed to a one-month peak as mounting unrest in the Middle East spurred demand for precious metals as a haven. Palladium jumped to the highest in almost 10 years.

Egypt approved a request from Iran to send two naval ships through the Suez Canal on their way to Syria, while Israel called the passage a “provocation.” Bahrain’s security forces attacked protesters for a second day. Gunfire broke out in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, as pro-democracy demonstrations spread to Libya and Iran.
“If you see violence, you would buy precious metals for a safe haven,” said Peter Fertig, the owner of Quantitative Commodity Research Ltd. in Hainburg, Germany

Silver futures for March delivery rose 72.6 cents, or 2.3 percent, to settle at $32.296 an ounce at 1:25 p.m. on the Comex in New York. Earlier, the price reached $32.87, the highest for a most-active contract since March 1980. This week, the metal gained 7.7 percent, the most since early December.

Gold futures for April delivery gained $3.50, or 0.3 percent, to $1,388.60 an ounce. Earlier, the price reached $1,392.60, the highest since Jan. 13. The metal climbed 2 percent this week.
Demand for gold bars and coins in the Middle East jumped 39 percent in the fourth quarter from a year earlier, World Gold Council figures yesterday showed.

Rising food and commodity prices have contributed to uprisings in the Middle East.

‘Talk of Inflation’

“There are still flare-ups and people getting hurt,” said Adam Klopfenstein, a senior market strategist at Lind-Waldock in Chicago. “There’s more talk of inflation, and no one wants to be short of precious metals heading into the weekend.”
Dennis Gartman, an economist and the editor of the Suffolk, Virginia-based Gartman Letter, prefers gold over silver,
“Silver’s fundamentals are clearly better than those of gold, but we will not accept the randomness and the violence that is the silver market,” Gartman said in his newsletter.
Silver traded as low as $26.30 on Jan. 28.
Palladium futures for March delivery climbed $14.70 or 1.7 percent, to $857.70 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Earlier, the price reached $858.25, the highest since March 2001. The metal advanced 5.3 percent this week.
In the past year, silver has doubled, and palladium jumped 97 percent. Gold is up 24 percent, and platinum has gained 21 percent.
Platinum futures for April delivery fell 70 cents to $1,843.30 an ounce. The metal gained 1.6 percent this week.
Markets will be closed on Feb. 21 for the President’s Day holiday.

0 IRAN THE DANGER TO WORLD PEACE? I DON'T THINK SO!

http://whatreallyhappened.com/

Since the 1979 Iranian revolution and the downfall of the US Puppet Ruler the Shah, Iran has been an Islamic state. In that interval of time, 1979 to the present, Iran has not invaded anyone. Not once. People of all religions live in peace in Iran, even Jews, who find life so comfortable in Iran they refused an offer by the government of Israel to emigrate! In the same period of time, Israel, a self-declared Jewish state, attacked Iraq in 1981, bombing the power station at Osirik, claiming it was a clandestine weapons factory. Subsequent examination of the ruins following the 2003 invasion proved Israel had lied. In 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon. This led to the Massacres at Sabra and Shatilla. In February 2003 Israel stages incursions into Gaza and Nablus. In September 2007 Israel bombs Syria, again insisting they are destroying a clandestine weapons laboratory. Again there is no evidence to support Israel's claims. In 2006, Israel attacks Lebanon, killing 1200, mostly civilians, several UN observers, and littering the landscape with land mines on their way out.In February 2008 Israel again raids Gaza, killing over 100. HAMAS agrees to a cease fire and keeps it for 6 months until November 4, when Israel again attacks, killing 6 HAMAS members, launching operation CAST LEAD. 1300 Gazans, mostly civilians, are killed. Israel loses 13 soldiers. Violations of international law include the use of White Phosphorus incendiary bombs against civilians and non-military targets. The United Nations investigates, but Israel refuses to cooperate. In May 2010, Israel attacks an international aid flotilla bring food and medical supplies to Gaza in international waters. 9 people are murdered including an American from New York. Add to it the numerous assassinations such as last year's embarrassment in Dubai, and you get the picture, even without the overtly racist and apartheid statements coming from Israel's rabbis.
In the same period of time, the United States, officially a secular nation but predominantly Christian, attacked El Salvador (1980), Libya (1981), Sinai (1982), Lebanon (1982 1983), Egypt (1983), Grenada (1983), Honduras (1983), Chad (1983), Persian Gulf (1984), Libya (1986) , Bolivia (1986), Iran (1987), Persian Gulf (1987), Kuwait (1987), Iran (1988), Honduras (1988), Panama (1988), Libya (1989), Panama (1989), Colombia, Bolivia, and Peru (1989), Philippines (1989), Panama (1989-1990), Liberia (1990), Saudi Arabia (1990), Iraq (1991), Zaire (1991), Sierra Leone (1992), Somalia (1992), Bosnia-Herzegovina (1993 to present), Macedonia (1993), Haiti (1994), Macedonia (1994), Bosnia (1995), Liberia (1996), Central African Republic (1996), Albania (1997), Congo/Gabon (1997), Sierra Leon (1997), Cambodia (1997), Iraq (1998), Guinea/Bissau (1998), Kenya/Tanzania (1998 to 1999), Afghanistan/Sudan (1998), Liberia (1998), East Timor (1999), Serbia (1999), Sierra Leon (2000), Yemen (2000), East Timor (2000), Afghanistan (2001 to present), Yemen (2002), Philippines (2002) , Cote d'Ivoire (2002), Iraq (2003 to present), Liberia (2003), Georgia/Djibouti (2003), Haiti (2004), Georgia/Djibouti/Kenya/Ethiopia/Yemen/Eritrea War on Terror (2004), Pakistan drone attacks (2004 to present), Somalia (2007), South Ossetia/Georgia (2008), Syria (2008), Yemen (2009), Haiti (2010), etc. etc. etc. etc.
So, who is the danger to world peace?

0 Court confirms: IP addresses aren't people (and P2P lawyers know it)

Wrapping up the last of the United Kingdom's notorious copyright infringement "pay up" letter cases, a UK patent and copyright judge has had a major revelation.

Just because some lawyer cites an Internet Protocol (IP) address where illegal file sharing may have taken place, that doesn't mean that the subscriber living there necessarily did the dirty deed. Or is responsible for others who may have done it.
"What if the defendant authorises another to use their Internet connection in general and, unknown to them, the authorised user uses P2P software and infringes copyright?" asked His Honour Judge Birss QC last Tuesday.
What indeed? The question comes in the case of MediaCAT Limited versus 27 defendants accused of sharing online porn. The copyright holding group is represented by lawyer Andrew Crossley of ACS law. He wants around £500 apiece from the accused, even though most of his cases show little evidence of individual guilt.
That's not the only legal snag Judge Birss noticed. He was particularly irritated over evidence that ACS was trying to withdraw the questionable complaints in a bid to sue the defendants again under better circumstances, and with a new firm: GCB.
"The GCB episode is damning in my judgment," Birss warned. "This shows that Media CAT is a party who, while coming to court to discontinue, is at the very same time trying to ram home claims formulated on exactly the same basis away from the gaze of the court. That will not do."

0 The Magic Number "Somali Pirate Who Attacked U.S.-Flagged Ship Sentenced in NYC to more than 33 Years"

"33" continues to pop up in the news...a little too often

Abdiwali Abdiqadir Muse previously admitted he's a modern-day pirateThe Somali pirate who attacked a U.S.-flagged ship in 2009 was sentenced in New York to more than 33 years in prison.

Abdiwali Abdiqadir Muse previously admitted he's a modern-day pirate. The U.S. government says he also had an old-school sadistic streak.
While terrorizing merchant ships on the Indian Ocean, Muse regularly aimed "his gun at the head of a hostage and pulled the trigger, laughing when the gun did not fire," federal prosecutors wrote in court papers. "Muse derived joy from the suffering of victims."
The prosecutors argued Muse's ruthlessness is one reason he should get nearly 34 years at sentencing Wednesday in a Manhattan courtroom. Defense attorneys have countered in their court papers that their client, who's from Somalia, is an impoverished and naive young man whose crimes were born of desperation.

0 Yachts with champagne showers tempt the world's super-rich to Germany

Fancy an ocean-going super yacht fitted with showers that spray champagne? Or perhaps a giant room-sized freezer so that guests can have snowball fights in the Bahamas? Germany now claims to be the best place to go shopping for such craft.
Eclipse – World’s Largest and Most Expensive Yacht

Forget the recession, the global super-yacht business is booming. According to evidence gleaned by Der Spiegel magazine, Germany has become the world's top provider of luxury motor vessels for the ultra-rich, outstripping rival concerns in the Netherlands and Italy.
With a handful of specialist shipyards in the port cities of Hamburg and Bremen, it caters to a variety of exclusive customers such as Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, Muammar Gaddafi's son, and the Russian owner of Chelsea FC, Roman Abramovich.
"We have an unusual situation," said Michael Breman, the head of sales at the super-yacht builders Lürssen in Bremen whose luxury vessels start at €50m (£43m). "Never has there been so much money available to spend on yachts."
Yacht builders say the demands of their super-rich customers are becoming increasingly eccentric. Clients demanded two helipads on one yacht, giant room-sized freezer compartments and even recording studios and operating theatres on others. "Nothing is unusual any more," Mr Breman said. "We see ourselves as part of the entertainment business. We will do anything so long as it is not illegal or nautically questionable," he added.
One of the latest luxury yacht fads is for "RainSky" shower units. They have shower heads the size of a car bonnet, consume 10 gallons of water a minute and cost €18,000. "Our clients finished with whirlpool baths a while back," said Matthias Voit whose company, Dornbach makes the units, "they now want special showers in which you can control the droplet size and the speed at which they fall."
Mr Voit said his latest order was from an unnamed Russian client who wanted a RainSky shower on his yacht capable of squirting either water or champagne on demand. "We'll manage that," Mr Voit said. "The only unresolved question is whether the champagne should be warm or cold," he added.
However the German industry has mixed feelings about its most outstanding product to date – the 536ft motor yacht, Eclipse, which was completed by the Hamburg yard, Blohm + Voss last year for Roman Abramovich.
The yacht has nine decks, a crew of 70, a cinema, discotheque and its own miniature submarine which enables the owner to leave the ship undetected. Maintenance costs are estimated to run at some €20,000 a day. Mr Abramovich insisted on having RainSky shower rooms and 3D televisions.
Blohm + Voss landed the contract for the Eclipse six years ago. The yard agreed to build the yacht for €340m and have it ready for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But they fell behind on the order as building costs spiralled. When the yacht finally set sail from Hamburg last December the total cost was estimated at €800m. Mr Abramovich is believed to have paid something between the two figures leaving the shipyard to write off the remainder as a loss.
One of the Russian's main goals was to be the owner of the world's longest luxury yacht. At 536ft, the Eclipse beat the previous record holder by 1ft 8in. But it won't be long before it's eclipsed. The Lürssen yard is building a 590ft yacht for an Arab customer, with another 656ft craft on the books.

As long as they are "happy" ....eh?.

0 Judge gives go-ahead to add fluoride to city's tap water supply - despite overwhelming public opposition

Plans to add fluoride to tap water in a major city were endorsed by a judge yesterday despite overwhelming public opposition.

Mr Justice Holman rejected claims that the decision-making process was defective and dismissed a legal challenge to the scheme in Southampton.
Hampshire council and three quarters of residents oppose the plans drawn up by the strategic health authority. But dentists say the scheme will cut tooth decay in children.
Just 10 per cent of England’s water is fluoridated, covering 5.5million people, mainly in the North East and West Midlands. The last fluoridation scheme was introduced in 1985.
Refusing a claim for judicial review by Southampton mother-of-three Geraldine Milner, the judge said there had been no illegality.
‘It is important to stress that our democratic Parliament decided long ago that water can, in certain circumstances, be fluoridated,’ he added.
‘It is not the law that fluoridation can occur only when a majority of the local population agree. Parliament has firmly entrusted area-specific decision making to the relevant strategic health authority.’

Miss Milner’s counsel, David Wolfe, said the health authority’s decision meant that approximately 195,000 people in Southampton and parts of south-west Hampshire ‘would have fluoride added to their water whether they liked it or not’.
Opponents believe fluoride could be a risk to general health with potential side effects including bone cancer. But the British Dental Association said fluoridation was a safe and effective way of reducing fillings and extractions.
A spokesman said: ‘This is likely to encourage consultation on similar schemes in other parts of the country where fluoride could help address the poor dental health of the population.’

0 A team of researchers has demonstrated how passwords in iPhones and iPads can be retrieved from a stolen or lost device in only six minutes, even if it is locked.

Screenshot of Proof of Concept approach with truncated Output of revealed Password

Scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT) test laboratory in Germany have shown how someone who steals or finds an or iPad can use existing to “jailbreak” the device and gain access to the command shell. A secure shell (SSH) server can then be installed to enable them to run their own software on the device. Both procedures can be carried out even if the device is locked.
The attackers can then upload a script to the device to use the device’s own tools to give them access to the keychain, which is Apple’s password management system. The keychain entries can then be downloaded to the attacker’s computer.
The attack is successful because in the current operating system in “i” devices (iOS) large parts of the file system are accessible even if the device is locked, and the cryptographic key is not protected by the passcode.

The demonstration showed the researchers were able to retrieve in the keychain but not in other protection classes. They were able to access and decrypt passwords for Google Mail (as an MS Exchange account), voicemail, virtual private network (VPN), WiFi, some Apps, various MS Exchange accounts and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) accounts.
The researchers said with the SIM card removed from the device they could also access email passwords and access codes for corporate WLANs and VPNs. Having access to email passwords gives the attacker even more passwords since many passwords are reset simply by requesting a reset and providing the email address.

The researchers recommended that anyone who loses an iOS device or has it stolen should immediately change all their passwords for all accounts, even those not stored in the iPhone or iPad. They also warned that similar or identical passwords to those the attackers might access on the device are especially vulnerable to hacking. They said that encryption is no protection because the encryption relies on the secret information that would be revealed by the attack. The attack is easy to conceal, and this means that devices left unattended even for just a few minutes could be vulnerable.

0 Western Media Blatantly Propagandise Iran's 32nd Anniversary of Islamic Rule.

TEHRAN (AFP) – Hundreds of thousands of Iranians, chanting slogans supporting the Arab uprisings and denouncing the United States, marched towards a Tehran square Friday to mark the 32nd anniversary of the Islamic revolution which toppled the shah.

Men, women and children, braving the cold and cloudy weather, were seen marching from several parts of Tehran towards Azadi Square (Freedom Square) where President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is due to address them.
Millions of Iranians gather at Azadi (Freedom) Square to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution
"Egyptians, Tunisians, your uprisings are just and we are with you," the crowds were heard chanting as they arrived at the square.
State television, which telecast the crowds live, said this year the government-organised rally would show solidarity with uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, with crowds shouting: "Hosni Mubarak, 'mubarak' (congratulations) on the uprising of your people."
Similar marches were taking place in provincial cities to mark the anniversary, a yearly rallying point for the Islamic regime.
The 1979 revolution toppled the monarchy of shah Mohammad Reza, a key US ally in the region. Diplomatic relations between Tehran and Washington were broken off soon after and remain so to this day.
"Death to America! Death to Israel!" chanted the crowd as they carried Iranian flags, banners and posters of Iranian revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who led the uprising against the shah, and of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the nation's supreme leader.

The report continues the propaganda thick and fast by switching directly from the "Death to America!!" crowd, to statements from Ahmadinejad (taken out of context) talking about the "Financial implosion and demise of the United States and the West".
In effect, if read in this context...it would seem like Iran plans an attack on the US, it also completely masks his verbal attack on Israel...and his call of support to Gaza and the Palestinian people.
Since and before 1979 and under 32 years of "Islamic rule" Iran has not invaded anyone....
Unlike the US of Israel....erm...A, who in the last 32 years have invaded DOZENS of countries...majority of the time "illegally"
keeping the above in mind....
the report continues....
Late on Thursday, Ahmadinejad set the tone for his speech on Friday by hitting out at Western powers and Israel.
"The bullying and arrogant powers are on the verge of doom," state news agency IRNA quoted him as saying at a diplomatic reception he hosted to mark the anniversary.
Referring to the US military presence on Iran's borders in both Afghanistan and Iraq as well as in the Gulf, Ahmadinejad said: "The bases of bullying powers around the world will be eradicated, and occupations around the world and the region will soon come to an end."
He said the increasing "participation of people in managing the world will lead to Zionists giving up their territories to Palestinians."
In a separate report on state television's website Ahmadinejad, referring to the Arab uprisings, said: "The message of the Islamic republic in past 32 years has been heard by the world and its mind has awakened."
"The oceans of pure hearts have reached a boiling point and, God willing, it will wash all the pollution and dirt from human societies."
The European Union is boycotting events marking the anniversary in protest at the hanging of Zahra Bahrami, an Iranian-Dutch woman executed by Tehran for drug smuggling.
"All EU members will boycott various events related to the Iranian national holiday Thursday and Friday in Tehran, Brussels and Geneva," a diplomatic source told AFP.
The boycott, agreed by the political and security committee of the European Union on February 4 was "in protest of the execution of Ms. Zahra Bahrami" who was hanged on January 29, the source said.
The Netherlands has condemned the hanging of Bahrami, who was initially arrested during mass protests over Ahmadinejad's disputed 2009 re-election, which sparked a deadly crackdown, but executed on drug smuggling charges.
Her execution prompted the Dutch government to freeze all diplomatic contact with what it labelled a "barbarous regime" in Iran.
During last year's anniversary rally, Iran's opposition had attempted to stage anti-government demonstrations which were crushed by security forces and the Basij militiamen.
Since then the opposition supporters have stayed off Tehran streets but their leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have sought to hold a rally on Monday in support of Arab uprisings in the region.
But critics say their plan is to garner their supporters and attempt to stage an anti-government demonstrations.
Iran's elite military force, the Revolutionary Guards, have warned against holding the rally, while the family and relatives of Karroubi have reportedly been barred from meeting the cleric at his home.

They also throw in the story about TWICE convicted drug smuggler "Zahra Bahrami" to further try and muddy their stinking agenda of Iran bashing,
police had uncovered 450 grams (16 oz) of cocaine and 420 grams (15 oz) of opium in a search of her house...Bahrami had been previously caught at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport with almost 16 kilograms of cocaine in her luggage, for which she was sentenced by a Dutch court to 3 years imprisonment in 2003, and she had also been convicted of forging passports in 2007.
Iran do not take MAJOR Drug Smuggling as lightly as we do here... they also CASTRATE paedophiles...we send them back into the community,
Funnily enough nobody is up in arms protesting the "barbarous regime" for that.

Who are we to attack anyone's laws anyway? have we EVER been in a position to say we are better than anyone else??
